What is the purpose of Homerez?

We had a lovely ski holiday in this charming old-fashioned chalet. But what is the point of an agency acting as an intermediary between the owner, who was friendly and answered our preliminary questions and welcomed us warmly, and us, as well as AirBnB which provided us with the description and guarantees? Especially when the level of comfort does not match the price. From my point of view, the additional cost is related to the agency's fee.
