Montenegro packs black mountains, Adriatic beaches and fortified Venetian towns into a narrow strip of land. Between the Bay of Kotor, the long beaches of the south and the Durmitor massif, this small country is easy to explore in one or two weeks, with a home base of your own included.

Hiking, swimming and exploring fortified towns

Climb the ramparts of Kotor for views over the fjord-like bay, then follow the coastal road to Budva and its old town. In the south, Ulcinj's Velika Plaža stretches for about twelve kilometers of sand, popular with kitesurfers, while Ada Bojana island draws swimmers and fans of grilled fish.

Inland, Durmitor National Park is perfect for hiking around Black Lake and rafting through the Tara River Canyon. Ostrog Monastery, carved into a cliff face, remains a major pilgrimage site. A car makes these distances very manageable.

Where to stay

The Ulcinj area, in the far south, is where most of our apartments are located: ideal for combining beaches, home cooking and quiet evenings with family or friends, close to the Albanian border.

Tivat, on the Bay of Kotor, offers a modern marina and quick access to Kotor and Perast. Bar combines a busy port with a ruined old town worth visiting, while the Luštica peninsula charms with its coves and stone villages, peaceful and facing the Adriatic.

What to see – Montenegro

  • Kotor Old TownMedieval alleyways and Venetian ramparts climbing up to St. John's Fortress, with views over the bay.
  • Durmitor National ParkA mountain massif with glacial lakes, including Black Lake, perfect for hiking.
  • Ostrog MonasteryAn Orthodox sanctuary carved into a vertical cliff, a heavily visited pilgrimage site.
  • PerastA small baroque village on the Bay of Kotor, facing the islets of Our Lady of the Rocks and St. George.

Frequently asked questions

How many properties do you offer in Montenegro and what types are they?

We offer 8 rentals in Montenegro: 6 apartments, 1 chalet, 1 studio. Most are concentrated around Ulcinj in the south, with others in Tivat, Bar, and on the Luštica peninsula. They accommodate up to 8 people, which suits couples as well as families or small groups looking for a whole property.

Are the properties well rated?

Yes, the rated properties show an average rating of 4.9 out of 5, based on 5 rated rentals. That's a very good indicator of reliability, even though the number of reviews remains limited. Check each listing for the exact amenities, air conditioning, and the real distance to the beach before booking.

Do I need a car, and which airport should I fly into?

Tivat Airport serves the coast well, while Podgorica Airport opens up the south and the interior. A car is highly recommended: the distances between Kotor, Ulcinj, and Durmitor are short but poorly served by public transport. The south, near Ulcinj, is also accessible from neighboring Albania.

What's the best time to visit?

The beach season runs from June to September, with warm sea water in August but a very crowded coast. May, early June, and September offer a good balance of warmth and quiet. For hiking in Durmitor and rafting on the Tara River, aim for June to September, when the gorges are accessible.

Which area should I choose based on my trip?

For beaches and a relaxed family pace, head to Ulcinj and its sandy Velika Plaža. Tivat is a good choice if you want quick access to Kotor and Perast. Bar combines a harbor with an old town in ruins, while Luštica appeals with its quiet coves and stone villages.

How do you get around the Bay of Kotor?

A ferry links Kamenari to Lepetane in just a few minutes, avoiding the long drive around the fjord, which is handy from Tivat. The coastal road around Kotor is narrow and busy in summer, so set off early. Parking in the walled old towns is limited, so it's better to park on the outskirts.
