The heel of Italy's boot, Apulia unfurls its centuries-old olive groves, its Baroque towns and two seas of vivid blue. Between the trulli of Alberobello, the beaches of the Salento and generous tables, the region suits family holidays as much as getaways with friends.

Exploring land and sea, from the Salento to the Gargano

Start with Lecce and its golden-stone Baroque centre, then head down to the Salento to alternate coves and long beaches: Gallipoli and its old town on its islet, the turquoise waters of Punta Prosciutto, the cliffs of Santa Maria di Leuca near Gagliano del Capo.

Along the Adriatic, stop at Trani and its cathedral set facing the water, then at Bari to wander through Bari Vecchia and taste hand-made orecchiette in the street. To the north, the Gargano promontory and the Umbra Forest offer hikes and perched villages. Everywhere, morning markets, olive oil, burrata and primitivo wines: with a kitchen of your own, preparing a meal with these products is part of the trip. Spring and autumn remain the mildest seasons to visit.

Where to stay

Our villas, houses and apartments cover both sides of the region. Lecce, an ideal base for exploring the Salento, has the widest choice. Gallipoli will suit seaside stays, Brindisi and Bari those who love well-connected port cities.

For a more relaxed pace, Trani and Gagliano del Capo offer the calm of the seaside, while Foggia opens the door to the Gargano. Renting a whole home means the space and independence you need to explore at your own tempo, with family or friends.
