Portimão, Faro District
The District of Faro covers the Algarve, that southern tip of Portugal where ochre cliffs plunge into the Atlantic. Between the beaches of the Ria Formosa, the Benagil caves and the markets of Loulé, you come here for the sun, the sea and a cuisine centred on grilled fish.
Swimming, sailing and walking along the cliffs
Start with the beaches: Praia da Rocha in Portimão and its rock formations, the long Praia da Falésia lined with red cliffs near Olhos de Água, or the coves of Albufeira. A boat trip from Portimão or Alvor leads to the Benagil sea caves, spectacular in late morning.
Inland, the Loulé market (Saturday morning) overflows with fruit, almonds and fish. Golfers will find plenty around Vilamoura and Quarteira. Finally, the Ria Formosa, between lagoons and sandbanks, can be explored on foot or by kayak. Summer is hot and lively; spring and autumn stay mild and far quieter.
Where to stay
Portimão and neighbouring Alvor suit active seaside stays, just steps from the beaches and the port. Olhos de Água and Albufeira offer a resort atmosphere, with old quarters and seafront restaurants. Quarteira lines up its seafront and fishmongers' markets. For a more relaxed pace, Loulé and Quelfes retain an authentic character, away from the coast.
Our villas and apartments give you the kitchen and space to cook the catch of the day, ideal with family or friends.

Frequently asked questions
How many rentals do you offer in the Faro District?
We offer 16 whole accommodations across the Algarve, mainly 8 apartments, 5 houses, 3 villas. You’ll find these accommodations in Olhos de Água, Albufeira, Portimão, Quarteira and Loulé. Among them, 16 offer a sea view and 40 have a pool.
Are the accommodations well rated by travelers?
Yes. The rated accommodations show an average rating of 4.8 out of 5, calculated from 11 rated rentals. These reviews cover comfort, cleanliness and location. Be sure to read the detailed comments on each listing before booking to refine your choice.
How do you get to the Algarve, and do you need a car?
Faro Airport serves the whole region and is about 40 km from Albufeira. A car is still recommended to reach the coves, inland markets and the Ria Formosa. Seaside towns like Portimão or Quarteira remain accessible by bus from the airport, though.
What is the best time to visit?
Summer is hot, sunny and very busy, ideal for swimming in the Atlantic. Spring and fall offer mild temperatures, quieter beaches and often lower rates. 41 accommodations are air-conditioned, a real plus during the intense heat of July and August.
Which town should I choose for my stay?
Portimão and Alvor suit active beach stays, close to the marina and beaches. Olhos de Água and Albufeira offer a resort atmosphere with seafront restaurants. For a calmer, more authentic pace, choose Loulé or Quelfes, away from the coast.
How do you visit the Benagil Caves?
The sea caves are best explored on a boat trip departing from Portimão or Alvor. Late morning offers the best light inside the caves. Book ahead in high season. On Saturday mornings, the Loulé market rounds out a day well in the region.
