Family Retreat in a Green Setting in Waimes
Waimes, Wallonia
The Walloon Region unrolls its Ardennes forests, its Meuse and Ourthe valleys and its towns of character in southern Belgium. Between hikes, industrial heritage and grey-stone villages, our houses and gîtes let you set down your bags and cook at your own pace, with family or with friends.
Hike, cycle and explore the caves
Head to the High Fens near Waimes to walk the boardwalks of the plateau and climb the Signal de Botrange, the country's highest point. The Ourthe valley, around Comblain-au-Pont, lends itself to kayaking, climbing and visits to underground caves.
By bike, the former railway lines converted into the RAVeL network cross Gouvy and Fauvillers. History enthusiasts head to Bastogne and the nearby Mardasson Memorial. With a kitchen at your disposal, you come back in the evening to simmer a carbonade and taste the local beers without worrying about the clock.
Where to set down your bags
Liège comes alive around La Batte on Sundays and the lanes of Le Carré: ideal for an urban, foodie stay. Charleroi, a land of street art and mining heritage, offers a practical and lively base.
For nature, Hamois and the Condroz line up their stone farms and rolling fields, while Waimes and Gouvy plunge into the heart of the Ardennes and their forests. Honnelles, on the French border, charms with its hedgerow landscapes, and Fauvillers opens onto the Gaume and the Luxembourg Ardennes. Our houses and gîtes there suit both large groups and getaways for two.
