Follow the coast, watch the seals, explore inland
You come first for the coastline: the beach huts of Cayeux-sur-Mer, the promenade at Berck and its sand yachts, the great tides of the Baie de Somme where you set off to watch the seals at the Pointe du Hourdel. The clifftop trail leads from Cap Blanc-Nez to Cap Gris-Nez, facing the English cliffs.
Inland, the Raismes-Saint-Amand-Wallers forest can be explored by bike, the hortillonnages of Amiens by boat, and the mining basin reveals its slag heaps around the Louvre-Lens. With your own kitchen and garden, you come back from your outings without worrying about the clock, perfect after a day in the wind.
Where to set down your bags
On the Picardy coast, Cayeux-sur-Mer and Berck suit seaside stays, a stone's throw from the beaches and fish markets. Camiers, Longvilliers and Saint-Josse, in the Pas-de-Calais, put the forest and Le Touquet within immediate reach.
