Cycling, sightseeing and tasting along the Loire
The region can be explored by bike thanks to La Loire à Vélo, a waymarked route linking Orléans to Tours along the river and its sandbanks. As for the châteaux, Chambord with its double-helix staircase, Chenonceau spanning the Cher, Amboise and Blois can be visited in all seasons; spring and autumn avoid the summer crowds.
Wine lovers roam the vineyards of Sancerre, Vouvray and Chinon, with tastings in troglodyte cellars. The markets of Beaugency and the banks of the Cher at Noyers-sur-Cher round out the itinerary. With a whole house, you head back to cook produce from the market and store the bikes safely after the day's ride.
