The Fès-Meknès region brings together two of Morocco's imperial cities, their UNESCO-listed medinas, leather and pottery craftsmanship, and the ancient Roman city of Volubilis. Between labyrinthine alleyways, tanneries and ancient ruins, you can trace centuries of history just a few kilometers from the Middle Atlas.

Getting lost in the medinas and stepping back in time

Explore the Fès el-Bali medina on foot, one of the largest in the world, making your way to the Bou Inania Madrasa with its zellige tilework and carved wood decoration. Watch leather being worked from the terraces of the Chouara Tannery, before browsing for copperware and pottery in the souks. In Meknès, wander through El-Hedime Square and the Bab Mansour gate. Set aside half a day for Volubilis, where the Roman mosaics are best seen early in the morning or late afternoon, once the heat has eased. Spring and fall remain the most pleasant seasons for walking.

Where to stay in Fès

Our apartments are concentrated in Fès, making it easy to branch out to Meknès and Volubilis. Staying here means having your own kitchen to cook with produce brought back from the market, and enough space for a family or a group of friends after a day in the medina.

Depending on the neighborhood, you can choose the new town, quieter and easier to reach by car, or stay close to the old town to walk to the souks and monuments right from the morning.

Frequently asked questions

How many rentals do you offer in Fès-Meknès and of what types?

We offer 5 rentals in the region, namely 5 apartments, all located in Fès. These entire homes suit families as well as groups, with capacity for up to 8 people. You'll have a kitchen and private spaces to cook the produce you bring back from the market.

Are the properties well rated?

Yes. Travelers give an average rating of 4.8 out of 5, based on 4 rated properties. This feedback concerns the comfort and location of the apartments in Fès. It's a useful indicator before booking, but be sure to also read the detailed reviews for each property.

How do you get to Fès, and do you need a car?

Fès-Saïss Airport is about fifteen kilometers from the city center. Fès is also connected by train to Meknès in about 40 minutes, as well as to Rabat and Casablanca. A car helps for visiting Volubilis, which isn't served by train, but taxis and organized excursions are a convenient alternative.

What's the best time of year to visit the region?

Spring, from April to June, and autumn, from September to October, offer pleasant temperatures for walking through the medinas. Summer is very hot, with frequent highs above 35°C. Winter stays mild during the day but cool in the evening, with the nearby Middle Atlas mountains snow-capped.

Which neighborhood in Fès should I choose for my stay?

To reach the souks and monuments on foot starting in the morning, choose somewhere close to Fès el-Bali, the old city. For more peace and quiet and easy access by car, the new town is a better fit. From Fès, you can easily head out to Meknès and the Volubilis site.

How should I plan my visit to Volubilis and the medinas?

Allow half a day for Volubilis, about 30 km from Meknès. Visit early in the morning or late afternoon, when the heat subsides and the light brings out the mosaics. In the medinas, bring comfortable shoes for the cobbled alleyways and download an offline map, since traffic is pedestrian-only.
